you might have about GoPlugable and its business model

Introduction👀

  • GoPlugable offers an alternate base charging option that connects private EV chargers in homes and businesses, making them bookable for all EV drivers. This approach caters not only to drivers without access to home charging but also serves as a supplementary destination charging solution.

  • We address the significant barrier for over 40% of potential EV drivers who lack access to private home chargers. Our solution also enhances public charging infrastructure by providing additional, accessible charging options.

  • By enabling the booking of slow chargers located at residential and commercial properties, GoPlugable creates a decentralized network of charging stations. This network supports drivers looking for reliable and conveniently located charging options without the need for heavy infrastructure investment.

  • Founded by Andrine Mendez and Maebh Reynolds, GoPlugable is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The concept was inspired by Andrine's personal challenge of not being able to install a home charger due to restrictions imposed by his landlord. This experience highlighted a common obstacle for urban EV drivers, sparking the creation of GoPlugable.

Market Dynamics🌍

  • On the B2C front, competitors like Co-charger, Joosup, and EV Match focus on residential peer-to-peer (P2P) charging, offering similar products and business models. For B2B, we face competition from Monta and Fuuse, who are significant players having raised Series A funding.

  • While Monta and Fuuse are prominent in the startup space, global giants like Tesla, Shell, and BP Pulse dominate the broader EV charging infrastructure market.

  • The impending ICE car ban in the EU and UK by 2030 and the lack of charging options for apartment dwellers and renters have created a burgeoning demand for accessible EV charging solutions.

  • The market for EVs and related charging infrastructure has only taken off in the last four years, making earlier viability difficult due to lower EV adoption and less developed technology.

  • as an eMSP, GoPlugable will enable its users to access select public charging networks along with the private slow charger network we are building. This means, GoPlugable can let EV drivers use all types of charging just via one app thus reducing the need for multiple apps or cards.

  • We use Stripe currently for all payments and our backend architecture is based on OCPP protocol currently. ( check image on the Product section)

Defensibility🛡️

    • Strong Industry Partnerships – Collaborations with Ratio, myenergi, SSE Airtricity, Garo, and leading installer networks provide a trusted brand presence and exclusive distribution channels.

    • Exclusive Private Charging Network200+ active home charger hosts, forming Ireland’s largest charger-sharing network that competitors cannot access.

    • First-Mover Advantage in Charger Sharing – Years of piloting and user data help us refine our host-driver matching, pricing models, and user experience, creating a strong foundation for scale.

    • Hybrid Model (Home & Business Charging) – Unlike other networks focused only on public charging, GoPlugable enables both private and commercial hosts to monetize their chargers, maximizing revenue opportunities.

    • Unique OCPP & OCPI Tech Stack – Seamlessly integrates home and business chargers while enabling access to public charge points, bridging the gap between private and commercial networks.

    • Non-OCPP Home Charger Network – Ability to monetize and manage non-OCPP home chargers, a segment untouched by traditional charge point operators (CPOs).

    • eMSP Expansion & Public Charging Access – Future roadmap includes enabling public charger bookings, making GoPlugable a one-stop EV charging platform.

    • Smart Data & Grid Integration – Charging behavior insights will drive dynamic pricing, smart load balancing, and utility collaborations, creating deeper industry integrations.

    • Scalability & First-Mover Advantage – Proven traction in peer-to-peer home charging, an emerging market that CPOs are yet to tap into, ensuring GoPlugable maintains its leadership position.

  • We have trademarks registered and own the code in terms of the IP. We also have few R&D products which we are considering patents for in future.

  • In our B2C model, we operate without exclusivity agreements or long-term contracts. Hosts have the flexibility to join or leave the platform at their discretion, similar to standard marketplace practices.

Conversely, our B2B partnerships are structured through annual contracts, with options extending up to three years to secure stable pricing and terms. This approach ensures a committed collaboration, benefiting both parties over the contract duration.

This dual strategy allows us to cater to individual users seeking flexibility while providing businesses with the reliability and predictability necessary for their operations.

  • In the competitive EV charging landscape, companies like Monta and Fuuse have secured substantial funding and offer robust platforms. Monta provides an integrated software solution compatible with over 400 charger models, facilitating seamless management for various stakeholders. Fuuse offers a flexible charge point management system built to open standards, compatible with OCPP-compliant hardware, and scalable across different settings.

Despite their strengths, GoPlugable distinguishes itself through a unique model that bridges both non-OCPP home chargers and OCPP-compliant commercial chargers. This dual compatibility allows us to integrate a wider range of charging stations, including those in private residences that are often overlooked. Additionally, our platform's OCPI integration enables EV drivers to access public charging networks seamlessly, providing a comprehensive charging solution.

Moreover, GoPlugable offers businesses the opportunity to advertise directly to EV drivers within our app, enhancing visibility and customer engagement—a feature not commonly found in competitor platforms. This combination of broad charger compatibility, public network access, and targeted business advertising positions GoPlugable ahead in delivering a versatile and user-centric EV charging experience.

Product 🎁

  • We offer users a diverse and accessible network of slow EV chargers that can be conveniently booked, enhancing the usability of electric vehicles for people without private charging access and providing an affordable alternative to rapid charging.

  • Unlike competitors focused on rapid charging, our platform prioritizes slow charging solutions integrated with both residential and business settings, fostering a community-driven approach that supports daily charging needs.

  • Our roadmap spans four phases:

    1. The current MVP and beta versions of our B2C and B2B products.

    2. Finalizing the B2B product with expanded hardware integration and advertising functionalities, allowing businesses to target EV drivers locally.

    3. Integrating public chargers via OCPI to include several fast-charging networks, enhancing user access and payment options.

    4. Developing a unique payment and rewards system to enhance customer engagement and retention. Additional hardware innovations are planned to enable smart solutions for managing Type 1 chargers in apartments and businesses.

  • These features are prioritized to respond to direct business demands and enhance user engagement. The expansion into hardware solutions for apartments and businesses is designed to address specific needs in urban settings, while the integration with public fast chargers and new payment solutions aims to increase convenience and stickiness of our platform for users.

  • The platform is build on Google Cloud with Server-less architecture which enables scaling as the platform grows.

  • The B2C platform calculates billing based on check-in and check-out time and the software does not connect to he home charger hardware as existing home charger models are not OCCP compliant or have systems that enable them to connect with 3rd party solutions like ours. The B2B solution connects to hardware via OCCP and enables us to control the hardware and get exact data of power used.

  • We work with local legal consultants who advise on the matter. We work with Tughans who advise us on legal matters related to UK & Ireland.

  • An on-streel parking model (like Ubitricity by Shell) essentially operates like a CPO, meaning we do not compete with them head on. On-Street charging does offer an alternative slow charging network but being on-street means, there could be always issue with availability as these are on public locations. And for a slow 3KW ( slower than home chargers we have), the prices for these are extremely high because of the commercial tariffs they are on.

💭 Vision

  • Our vision is to build the largest network of bookable slow chargers, complementing rapid charging infrastructure and making EV charging more accessible and affordable. By offering a seamless experience that combines slow, cost-effective home and business chargers with public charging access via MSP capabilities, we aim to be the most preferred EV charging app. We empower homeowners and businesses to monetize their chargers, driving adoption while creating a decentralized charging network. As we scale, our platform will become a central data hub for EV charging behavior, unlocking valuable insights for utilities, businesses, and policymakers to shape future infrastructure. Through this, we accelerate EV adoption by providing a smarter, more convenient, and cost-effective charging ecosystem for all drivers.

  • We are currently conducting R&D on a hardware solution for multi-tenancy buildings, branded as Lyla Charger(https://lylacharger.com/). This aligns with our vision of enabling everyone to charge their EV, regardless of their living conditions, by addressing a key gap in apartment and shared parking scenarios. As part of our larger goal to build a comprehensive slow charging network, this product will provide affordable, accessible, and bookable charging options for those without private driveways. Expanding into hardware strengthens our ecosystem, ensuring that both software and physical infrastructure work together to accelerate EV adoption.

  • Yes, GoPlugable aims to be a standalone charging platform that integrates multiple charging options. Our vision is to provide EV drivers with a single app where they can access affordable, bookable slow chargers from private hosts and businesses, while also integrating with public charging networks through OCPI compatibility. This ensures drivers have the flexibility to choose between cost-effective, home-based charging or rapid public charging when needed. By bridging these charging options, we position ourselves as the most comprehensive EV charging solution, offering convenience, affordability, and seamless access across networks.
